Delicate Blossoms

It’s spring and spring means flowers and flowers means flower photography. Whether wild or groomed, flowers are a photographers playground. Everyone loves flowers! And now is the time to take advantage before summer’s searing heat and brown hills renders these delicacies mere memories.

Today I present a beautiful blossom from my trip last week to Descanso Gardens. I singled out this blossom from among thousands of blossoms. I took care to find an appropriate specimen – well separted from its neighbors and perfect in structure.  Thinking carefully about my exposure (whites not grays), depth of field (shallow but not too), and focus (where do I want to force the viewers eye), I set out to extract the essence from this bloom. It seems the 100mm macro has found a semi-permanent home on my camera this spring.
